10 FANTASTIC REASONS YOUR KIDS SHOULD NOT MISS THE WORLD CUP.
1) Kids get to know names of over thirty countries of the world spontaneously and playfully.
2) Kids get to know the pattern of names and naming in different countries of the world.
3) Kids’ cognitive ability is improved; as they watch, they task their brain, wishing a striker throws a kick better or a keeper stretches further to an end.
4) Watching the world cup helps promotes cultural integration; kids tend to develop interest in other countries of the world other than theirs as a result of such countries’ performance in the world cup.
5) Kids who wish to become footballers in the future can easily discover suitable role models by watching the world cup.
6) Helps develop kids’ interest in football as they come to see football as both lucrative and popular career.
7) Kids are exposed to cultures of countries of the world, i.e. the way they share joyful moments, how they dance, the colour of their skin, etc.
8) Kids learn football terms that could be useful for them in the future.
9) It helps kids feel a sense of belonging and make them part of history making.
10) Since many parents will not be missing the matches, Parents can use the medium of the world cup to bond with their kids, once again.

UNILAG Produces Africa’s Youngest PhD Holder
By Adegunle Olugbamila
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) awarded yesterday a PhD to Mr. Olaoluwa Oluwadamilola (24), Africa’s youngest PhD holder.
Olwadamilola had the best PhD thesis, titled: “Studies on Fixed Points
of Contractive and Expanding Maps in Multi-Dimensional Spaces”. He
scored 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
Bakre Oluwafemi Abubakar, a graduate of Electrical/Electronics, was the 2012/2013 Convocation Valedictorian, with a superlative CGPA of 4.86.
Oluwadamilola’s parents are missionaries with the Deeper Christian Life Ministry.
They gave birth to him while on missionary work in African Central Republic, a French-speaking country, where Oluwadamilola had his basic and tertiary education.
He got a B.SC in Mathematics and M.SC and Physics before returning to Nigeria in October, 2009.
According to Oluwadamilola, he began his PhD in 2010, courtesy of a scholarship from the General Overseer of the Deeper Christian Life Mission, Pastor Williams Kumuyi. He spent the minimum three years for a PhD scholar in school.
Speaking with reporters at UNILAG Auditorium One, Oluwadamilola said: “I used to come first in my secondary school days, but not always. My performances became better when I entered the university.”
On his challenges during the programme, he said: “As a Christian, my schedule is very tight. I am focused. There were times when I faced distractions from friends who wanted to take me out. There is nothing bad in it, but it can make you concentrate less. There were times when I had job offers and was tempted to take them.
“I was discouraged at the beginning. One gets a feeling at the beginning of one’s doctorate programme that all the research topics had been considered by previous scholars and so there is nothing else to do, except for the most complicated ones that are most times beyond one’s ability. “Sometimes when you send your papers to international journals, they return it for one reason or the other. That does not mean your work is not good enough, but it can be very discouraging.”
On his next plan, he said: “I want to take another doctoral programme, which will be in either Mathematics or Physics. I will think of what topic to choose before I eventually go ahead.”
Abubakar, the valedictorian, described himself as someone from a privileged home.
Born of banker parents, he said it was not too difficult for him to study Electrical/Electronics, adding: “I will not describe myself as a bookworm, as I try to normalise everything I do. I am not a party freak, but once in a while, I attend social functions with my friends. I am privileged to have been born into a comfortable home. I must confess that I am a product of good advice. I chose the kind of friends I knew would influence me positively and you will always find me in their company.”
Executive-Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Prof. Julius Okojie, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan, urged the university’s management to be more creative in boosting its Internally-Generated Revenue (IGR).
Okojie, who also commended UNILAG for the prudent use of funds, underscored the need for universities to seek help from the alumni.
The week-long convocation wrapped up yesterday with the inauguration of three projects – the Central Laboratory donated by an alumnus and the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministry, Dr. Daniel Olukoya; the Biodun Shobanjo Mass Communication Multimedia Centre of Excellence, courtesy of the Chairman of the Troyka Group, Chief Biodun Shobanjo; and the Alumni Jubilee House built by the UNILAG Alumni Association in collaboration with Guarantee Trust Bank.

PROF. (MRS.) DORA AKUNYILI IS DEAD
On behalf of the Akunyili's family, I wish to officially confirm the death of Prof. (Mrs.) Dora Nkem Akunyili, OFR, in a Specialist Cancer Hospital in India this morning at 10 am, Nigerian Time, after a two-year battle with cancer.
In spite her illness, Prof. Akunyili was unwavering in her belief in a better Nigeria. That was why she defied her condition and was part of Anambra State Handover Committee and the National Conference.
The last time I visited her in India, even when she needed all the prayers herself, she was full of concern for the abducted Chibok girls, security and other challenges facing the country and told me that she remained prayerful for the release of those girls and for God to help President Goodluck Jonathan to overcome all the challenges facing the Nation. She therefore urged all Nigerians to remain prayerful and committed to building a better society for our children. We all prayed together and I promised to be visiting her every month.
We thank all those who remain fervent in prayers for her recovery and urge them to remain prayerful for the peaceful repose of her soul.

EDUCATION
Education by Abefe Ibadiaran
You can see by my write-ups that I am not a secondary school certificate holder but am still proud of myself that I know my left from my right....
The amount of emphasis places on education amongst Nigerians can be so scary at times, so many people are still single as a result of them still looking for a degree holder, some won't even date someone that didn't go to school abroad whilst some are looked down upon for their lack of basic education. One of the basic things that used to attract me to men was their level of Education, degree holder or not?
Have you ever spoken to a Nigeria who is a degree holder and don't have basic knowledge of "mutual respect" let alone something called "human right?" have you ever been in a gathering with a degree holder than cant even dress according to the occasion? Have you ever dated a degree holder that you found that he or she doesn't have public relations skills? Have you ever dated a degree holder that you have had to ask how old he or she really is in other for you to ascertain the truth behind the degree? Have you ever interviewed a Nigerian degree holder in the department of what he or she studied? And have you ever went for a dinner with a degree holder that has stylishly put fork and knife aside because he or she doesn't want to look stupid for it knowing the difference between starter fork and main course fork?
If Education is truly the best gift you can give to your child, how come many of those children still lacks self esteem and unable to hold a meaningful relationship? If Education is the greatest gift you can invest into your child, how come your child is still jobless after so many years in University? If Education is the greatest gift you can give a child, how come many of our degree holders still don't have basic wisdom, knowledge and understanding of life?
The koko of this post is this ... If Education is the greatest gift, why do you still pray to God to give you wisdom, knowledge and understanding onto of your degree?
How important is Education compared to Reality School of Life?
An average degree holder regardless of race, colour and gender still need basic facts about life to function correctly and efficiently in life, those we call low lifers or illeterates in Nigeria can still handle there marriage/relationship successfully compared to Dr. "Education" that lives in Abuja or America..
Those of you with whatever degree you are holding, how has that degree better your life in your strive to secure a long lasting relationship or assist you in having a blissful marriage?
The last time i heard a Nigerian graduate spoke in my presence over a reality of life matter, I nearly gave her a dirty slap because she spoke without application of common sense.... Basic Education (Secondary School Certificate) will teach you all about reading and writing and little life morals whilst Degree/University doesn't have the time to teach you ANTHING about life because 80% of University/Polytechnic lectures beliefs you would have some sort of maturity in you before you decided to go to University/Polytechnic. Abroad, kids hardly, hardly, hardly get double promotion or allowed to skip certain classes because they belief no matter how Educated you are, you still need the skills and knowledge of maturity to go with it.... Only in Nigeria will a 9years old be in Form 2.
Your degree, the education your parent gave you, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH IT AND HOW HAS IT IMPACTED YOUR LIFE POSITIVELY OUTSIDE OF MONEY MAKING MADNESS?
The Nigerian women degree holders are the worse when it come to Education, average lady degree holder in Nigeria can't have a reasonable conversation outside of money, business and fashion and such women will still look down in it her women that don't have that degree they have....
There is a place for everything, Education has got its own place in your life but it's nothing compare to the power of having basic GOOD MORAL UPBRINGING, WISDOM TO DEAL WITH REAL LIFE CHALLENGES AND KNOWLEDGE TO ACCEPT ONES FAULT WITHOUT EXCUSES...
If you have been to University and yet to have basic common sense or you are yet to understand the difference between religion, culture and reality, then I will suggest you ask for school of life....
Curriculum of school is what will determine if you have acquired basic
knowledge of Education or not, how you were taught in school is what will assist you coupled with good home training. Nigeria Educational system, kids aren't allowed to come up with what they understood in lessons during exams, YOU MUST COPY WORD FOR WORD WHAT YOUR LECTURER HAS TAUGHT YOU, SO WHAT IS GOOD IN SUCH EDUCATION?
In Education you must have the ability and knowledge of using your own MENTAL SKILLS to arrive at answers not copying your teacher/lecturer's and this is why the nation, our society has refused to move UP.
Basic Education (Secondary School Certification to the age of 16/18) is your ENTITLEMENT YOU REQUIRE TO BE ABLE TO FUNCTION IN A PUBLIC PLACE COUPLED WITH PROPER/GOOOD CONSTRUCTIVE HOME TRAINING
Having a degree IS NOT THE BEST GIFT YOU CAN EVER GIVE TO A CHILD, LOVE, KNOWING HOW TO LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY, RESPECTING OTHERS AND ABILITY TO BE CONTENTED ARE THE BASIC TOOLS AND GIFT ANY PARENT CAN INSTALL OR INVEST INTO THEIR KIDS LIVES

Bimbo Akintola: Now Desperate For Marriage, Laments Husband Scarcity?
Gist getting to us from a grapevine alleged that sultry Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola is lamenting the scarcity of a good 'husband material' approaching her for marriage. The tale-bearer squealed to us that the talented actress-cum-TV presenter is now allegedly desperate to get married and be called a Mrs.
"Bimbo is seriously lamenting that she is yet to be married at this moment," the gossip told us
When asked if the actress is presently not in a relationship, the rumour-monger told us that "Bimbo is in a relationship, but she feels the guy might not eventually take her to the altar, just like the others."
The tale-bearer also quipped that Bimbo has been confiding in few of her friends, who have consoled her not to worry herself much about it. "They have told her to cheer up and never let that disturb her career and happiness," the grapevine informed us. "Her close confidants try as much as possible to cheer her up," we were told.
Before going to press, we were unable to speak with Bimbo Akintola on this gist.
