At a time like this, the media is usually full of stories
of how the aircraft was as old as Methuselah; how it developed fault
about a week ago in 'Kutuwenji' but took off anyway; how the station
manager protested the use of the aircraft but the management over-ruled
him etc etc. One wonders why no formal report was lodged with the
relevant regulatory authorities.....or was there any and no one did
anything about the 'information' until now? Hmmm, our thoughts and
prayers are with the affected families...Father, let your kingdom come! -Olabisi Kayode
THE DRAMA MID-AIR
There might been a time when the pilot could have been asking everyone
to fasten their seat belts as the plane started to experience problems.
He could have been trying to sort it out. He could have told them what
the situation was. The plane could have made some sort of jostle which
could have made everyone started to panic. The children would have been
clinging to their parents and everyone would have been praying or
calling God or their various gods. A moment of panic and fear. A moment
that no one dread could happen. They must have left Abuja with all hope
that they were bound for Lagos, expected to be met at the airport by
their loved ones.
The air hostesses must have heard the instruction from the captain to
return to their seats. They must have done that with no expectation that
it was their last journey, smiling as they walked back to their seats.
Everyone would have been looking around in fear. Some shaking their
legs. Some whispering prayers. Some holding tight to their religious
books or objects of veneration. Some could have just sat down there
thinking, 'Oh God, please help'. It is a terrible experience when a
plane develops a problem midair.
Few
seconds before the crash, then the plane must have started to nose dive
rapidly in a speed that they knew it is now only miracle. They were not
yet at the airport. There must have been shouting and crying and those
seating by the windows/wings must have seen building underneath coming
closer and closer and then there must have been a bang! The pilot must
have been trying to take the plane to the airport when he could have
been hailed as an hero. But for time and unforeseen occurrence, there
wasn't any survivors. Many might have fainted and passed on from there.
Many might have made it but died when no help arrived in time.
Those below must have been doing things they normally do on Sunday
afternoon. Maybe some were just coming back from church or some was
about to go out or some were visiting or some were hosting or some were
rejoicing over a recent promotions, new born babies and so on. But all
came to abrupt standstill when Dana plane landed on them unexpectedly,
bringing to an end some innocent lives, including the ones of the
children.
What a
dreadful way to die. Dying by this circumstance is no joke when you saw
death 'coming' and there wasn't anyway to contact your loved ones to
tell them that you love them and that you may see them again. Very sad.
No one to be blamed but time
and unforeseen occurrence and those who knew there was a fault with the
plane (if there is any) and put innocent lives at risk. No compensation
can fill the gap this tragedy has caused. It happens. Tragedy happens.
Tsunami claimed thousands of lives in one single day. We know that is a
natural disaster but lives have been lost. This is not the first time in
Nigeria and it happened again. It may not be the end.
